The Day Colors Ran Away

Ruby loved colors. She wore a messy smock splashed with red and blue paint. The world around her looked bright and full of life—the shining trees, blooming flowers, and blue sky. Ruby smiled at the beautiful morning light.

A little bird named Pip flew down. He landed on an old wooden fence. Pip was a bright blue bird. He fixed the tiny red hat on his head. Suddenly, the air felt very strange and chill. The warm yellow sun turned cold and pale. It looked like a white coin in the sky. The light faded away like a blowing candle.
